About me

by Olesia

Welcome! My name is Olesia Guts. I’m a Registered Holistic Nutritionist, Certified Nutrition Coach and a French-trained chef.  I’m here to help you feel your best by providing actionable, evidence-based nutrition and lifestyle recommendations, supplemented with delicious and nourishing recipes.

My approach is based on the latest scientific research, but I believe that each person is unique and deserves individualized attention. I take a whole-person approach to nutrition, which means that I consider not only what you eat, but also how you live, think, and feel.

On this website, you can find important information about my nutrition consulting services, sign up for my 10% off professional supplement dispensary (Canada and US only), and access my e-books and favorite products. There is also a huge recipe section with easy-to-follow, gourmet recipes created with your best health in mind. Mostly plant-based and gluten-free, often vegan, and always delicious!

A little bit about my transformation journey:

I grew up in Ukraine eating a whole-food, plant-centered, nutritious diet, with my parents emphasizing that the best dishes are simple ones made from high-quality ingredients.

However, during my teens I got into fad dieting hoping to achieve Victoria Secret model shapes. But instead, I got an eating disorder and an amenorrhea. Combined with hormonal changes of that age, it led to weight swings, anxiety, self-consciousness, and a vicious cycle of increasingly restrictive diets.

In an unexpected twist at 22, I left my home country (and my career in journalism!) to study pastry and culinary arts at Le Cordon Bleu school in Paris. I learned from the world’s best chefs, perfected my technique, and for the first time, indulged in butter, sugar, and flour.

Upon graduation, I moved to New York City. There, I cooked in high-end restaurants, became a cake shop owner, then a real estate agent, and eventually – an exhausted, burnt-out person. After seven years of high-stress, undernourished lifestyle (hello, cakes for lunch and 4-hour sleeps!) I felt that my health was slipping away from me.

First came severe gut issues – H.pylori, ulcers, food intolerances. I also seemed to catch every cold and flu just by leaving the house, and my blood sugar approached pre-diabetic range. I constantly felt on the verge of collapsing. Until one day, I finally did. I can’t tell what it was as I was never given a diagnosis – but it felt like a full-on nervous system shut down. Getting through a day was unbearable. The worst part – since I didn’t have a formal diagnosis, I wasn’t given any treatment.

That’s when I realized I was the only person who can help me.

I inched my way out of the dark bedroom by first returning to the “basics” – everyday movement, sleep hygiene, as many colors on my plate as possible. I asked for help. I surrounded myself with like-minded holistic practitioners (a very special thanks to my Osteopath!). I went through Dynamic Neural Retraining System, learning about the influence of brain’s limbic system on every organ in the body. Finally, while training to become a Registered Holistic Nutritionist, I learned from the ground up (ground being my biochem classes!) how everything – food, stress, toxins, trauma, sleep, movement, emotions, and our environment – is interconnected and impacts our health. Indeed, these factors define the state of our well-being.

This understanding, as well as “filling my cup” with the aspects of health that were within my control, made my recovery happen – my gut pains, panic attacks and recurring colds went away, I could physically feel my nervous system calming down. As I felt stronger and at home in my body again, I was eager to help others feel better, stronger and restore inner balance. In my work I focus on balance a lot – as it’s important to feel in charge of your health without micromanaging it, as the latter can add to stress and fear of doing things “wrong”.

I launched my private online practice in 2022, based in Vancouver, BC, but supporting clients globally. Since then, I’ve never stopped learning. Recognizing that many of us struggle with integrating essential health basics into our busy, complex lives, I returned to school to study Nutritional Coaching. This education has helped me bridge the gap between “knowing” and “doing” for my clients by emphasizing mindset change practices and cultivating small habits that yield big results.

Since profound health changes require time, I’ve found that my clients benefit most from long-term support lasting two months or more. For this reason I don’t offer single sessions. However, you can schedule a complimentary 30-minute discovery session to learn more about the ways I can help and determine if I’m the right fit for you!
